Little Chemist Tips & Combos
A practical strategy guide for Little Chemist: exhaust the base pairs, chase hub elements like stone, tool, and life, remember doubles, and use hints when a branch stalls.
Play Little ChemistThe core idea
Test every new element against everything you own
Little Chemist has no failure state, so the only way to stall is to stop trying combinations. Whenever you discover something, sweep it against the base four and your recent finds before reaching further into the tree.
Habits
Seven habits that keep the tree opening
- 01
Exhaust the base pairs first: every combination of air, earth, fire, and water (including a thing with itself) has a recipe.
- 02
Whenever you make a new element, immediately try it against air, earth, fire, water, and your other recent discoveries.
- 03
Follow the water chain — puddle, sea, ocean — early; it feeds beaches, islands, and life.
- 04
The tool line is the backbone of the tree. Get stone, then metal, then tool, and dozens of elements open up.
- 05
Doubles matter: air plus air, water plus water, plant plus plant, and stone plus stone all make something.
- 06
If a branch stalls, ask for a hint — it always points to a pair you can already build.
- 07
Use the bin freely. Clearing the workspace does not touch your library, so tidy up whenever it gets crowded.
Key chains
Combos that open a whole branch
Each of these starts a line that runs deep into the tree — see the branches section of the guide for the full map.
- Fire + Water = Steam — Steam + Air = Cloud, then Cloud + Water = Rain — the weather line.
- Earth + Fire = Lava — Lava + Air = Stone, Stone + Fire = Metal, Metal + Stone = Tool — the materials line.
- Earth + Water = Mud — Mud + Plant = Swamp, then Energy + Swamp = Life — the biology line.
- Air + Fire = Energy — Energy + Storm = Lightning, Lightning + Metal = Electricity — the technology line.
- Life + Mud = Human — Human + Book = Knowledge, then Science, Computer, Robot — the civilization line.
- Sky + Sky = Space — Space + Fire = Star, Star + Star = Galaxy, Life + Space = Alien — the astronomy line.
By stage
How the approach shifts
Early game
Exhaust the base four against each other and against every new element. The first dozen discoveries come almost for free.
Mid game
Chase hub elements — stone, tool, cloud, life, human. Each unlocks a wide cluster, so a stall usually means you are missing one.
Late game
Use the search box, combine your rarest elements with each other, and lean on hints. Every hint points to a pair you can already build.
The branches
Where each line leads
Materials
Lava → stone → metal → steel → tool. From tools you get wood, wheels, blades, and everything built from them: houses, ships, cars, and machines.
Weather and land
Steam → cloud → rain, storm, and lightning. Rain on earth makes plants; sea plus earth makes lakes; lava plus ocean makes islands.
Life
Mud plus plant makes swamp; energy plus swamp makes life. Life plus land makes animals; life plus mud makes humans — and humans unlock the whole civilization branch.
Civilization and beyond
Humans plus books make knowledge, then science, computers, and robots. Sky plus sky makes space, leading to stars, planets, galaxies, astronauts, and aliens.
